This study investigates the impact of steel commodity prices on stock market returns in both emerging and developed economies, particularly in light of recent U.S. steel import tariffs. Using structural VAR and GARCH techniques on weekly data from 2002 to 2015, the authors find that steel price shocks significantly affect stock returns in several developed economies, while the U.S. and Germany show minimal response.
