This article presents a new Chinese Elicited Imitation Test (EIT) aimed at measuring global oral proficiency in second language acquisition (SLA) research for L2 Chinese learners. The study involved 80 participants from different linguistic backgrounds and levels, demonstrating that the EIT can effectively assess overall oral proficiency. The findings highlight the need for reliable and valid tools in SLA research to accurately gauge language abilities beyond impressionistic measures.
