What is IMRT and Concurrent Chemotherapy for Anal and Perianal Cancer: The Princess Margaret Hospital Experience about?
tumor length in endoscopy was shorter than that in situ (t = -4.70, p = 0.000). Tumor length with T2 stage measured by endoscopy and medullary tumor forms measured by esophagogram got most closely to that of the tumor in situ (2.9 ± 1.0 cm vs. 3.0 ± 1.0 cm, p = 0.627 and 4.5 ± 1.6 cm vs. 4.2 ± 1.6 cm, p = 0.165). But the accuracy was poor in every T stages, no matter in early T stages (Tis, T1-2) or in advanced T stages (T3-4) for CT scans in establishing tumor length when comparing tumor in situ. Lesion length measured in CT scan, esophagogram, and endoscopy corresponded to the tumor length in situ, were 41.9% (31/74), 55.4% (41/74), and 73.0% (54/74), respectively. Length coincidence of the CT scan was the lowest (c 2 = 14.65, p = 0.001). Conclusions: CT scans presented a poor accuracy in establishing the tumor length, yet the endoscopy and esophagogram presented more accurate in predicting it. Reference the results of endoscopy and esophagography to delineate the gross tumor volume for esophageal carcinoma is very important.
