What is Publisher's announcement about?

## BAR CODES ON KLUWER JOURNALS The Kluwer Academic Publishers Group are experimenting with the use of bar codes on journals. Our aim is to help increase the speed, reliability and economy of processing journals ordered by libraries. SISAC -acronym for the Serials Industry Systems Advisory Committeehas developed the SISAC Symbol. This is a bar code that is the machinereadable form of the Serial Issue Identifier (SIID), a unique code to identify each issue of a journal. It embodies the ISSN, the issue date, and the issue numbering. We hope that the introduction of bar codes on the journals of Kluwer Academic Publishers will be welcomed as a first step in the right direction. However, this is a trial phase, and we invite constructive comments to do with the usefulness of the coding, its content, readability, and location.
