The Westinghouse AP1000 is a two-loop pressurized water reactor that uses passive and simplified safety systems. It has a thermal power rating of 3415 MW and generates 1117 MWe of electricity. The AP1000 builds on existing Westinghouse reactor components but adds innovative passive safety features to improve safety, and modular construction to reduce costs and construction time.
