About this document

Electrolyte Imbalance in Sickle Cell Anemia by Ciendy Shintya is a document available to read on EtoBox.

This study evaluated membrane potential and electrolyte levels in 100 sickle cell patients compared to 100 healthy controls. The results showed significantly lower levels of sodium, potassium, and membrane potential in sickle cell patients, both in steady state and crisis, compared to controls. This suggests that sickle cell disease causes decreased energy levels due to electrolyte imbalances and dysfunction of cell membrane pumps responsible for maintaining ion concentration gradients.
