What is Kant’s “Analytic” and the Two-Fold Nature of Time about?
Kant's "Analytic" seeks to demonstrate that the mind provides the formal structure around which experience is built. Central to Kant's argument is bis doctrine of time, for all our knowledge is finally subject to time, the formal condition of inner sense. In it all our representations must be ordered, connected and brought into relation. 'This", Kant teils us, "is a general observation which, throughout what follows, must be borne in mind äs being quite fundamental" 2 . In the course of his argument Kant distinguishes the objective order of time from its subjective order. I should like to consider some of the problems which this distinction raises for the general argument of the "Analytic". I shall maintain that their solution provides the clue to the füll argument of the "Analytic" äs Kant understood it.
