About this document
Understanding Mores in Society is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Mores refer to the established social norms, customs, and values of a society rather than its written laws. They consist of shared understandings about behaviors that will elicit approval, disapproval, tolerance, or sanctions. Mores extend to all proper behaviors in a given society, both religious and secular, and determine what is acceptable or unacceptable within that culture. Examples from the 19th century show mores shaping expectations for different ethnic groups
