What is Transurethral Resection Syndrome Guide about?
Transurethral resection syndrome is a rare complication of transurethral prostatectomy where fluid used during surgery is absorbed, causing neurologic and electrolyte imbalances and potentially hyponatremia, hypovolemia, or hyperammonemia. Signs include lethargy, confusion, hypotension, tachycardia, nausea, vomiting, and collapse. Treatment involves discontinuing irrigation, diuretics, normal saline irrigation, monitoring intake/output and vital signs, and assessing for pulmonary edema or heart failure.
