Campus journalism in the Philippines began in 1910 with the publication of The College Folio by the University of the Philippines. In 1912, Carlos Romulo edited The Coconut, the first newspaper of Manila High School. By the 1920s, several high schools published newspapers including Pampanga High School in 1925. The number of high school newspapers continued to grow, reaching 30 by 1931, 169 by 1950, and over 900 by 1986 published in English and Filipino.
