Calapan was established as an Apostolic Prefecture on July 2, 1936, with Most Reverend William Finnemann as its first Apostolic Prefect. The first Catholic school, Holy Infant Academy, was founded in 1937, followed by several others built by SVD priests. In 1998, the Diocesan Education Office was created, with the first lay superintendent being Ms. Eviela S. Orbeta, PhD.
