Types and Function of Muscle Tissue by Clyde Baltazar is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Muscle tissue contains cells that contract through the interaction of actin and myosin filaments. There are three main types of muscle: skeletal, cardiac, and smooth. Skeletal muscle is voluntary, multinucleated, and striated. Cardiac muscle is involuntary, rhythmic, and contains intercalated discs. Smooth muscle lacks striations and has slow, involuntary contraction. Contraction occurs when calcium binds to troponin, exposing actin binding sites and causing myosin to pull actin inward, shortening the muscl
