This report compares the costs of building identical wood-framed and steel-framed homes in Beaufort, South Carolina. Labor hours and material costs were collected for each home and compared. Results found that the steel-framed home cost 14.2% more to build but required only 4.3% more labor hours than the wood-framed home. Air leakage tests also found about the same infiltration rate for both homes.
