What is In Situ Viscosity Measurement in Reactors about?

This document describes a method for online and in situ determination of viscosity in stirred tank reactors. The method measures the heat transfer capacity (UA) using a calibration heater and relates it to viscosity through a heat transfer model. The method was tested using polyvinylpyrrolidone solutions with viscosities from 0.001 to 0.12 Pa·s in a 50 L reactor. The heat transfer capacity measurements were precise, with less than 1.5% standard deviation. The online viscosity determinations were fairly accu
