This study aimed to identify the dehiscence rate and associated risk factors following gastrotomy for foreign material removal in dogs and cats. Out of 302 cases reviewed, no proven gastrotomy dehiscence was found, with an estimated rate of 0% to 0.66%, likely overestimating the actual rate. The findings suggest that the dehiscence rate is low in these animals, and the risk factors identified are similar to those for other gastrointestinal surgeries.
