About this document
Revolutionary Calendar by Dylan Cheng is a document available to read on EtoBox.
The French Revolutionary government introduced the Revolutionary Calendar in 1793, replacing the Gregorian calendar. The new calendar extended the workweek to 10 days and reduced religious holidays. However, the changes faced harsh criticism from the public who were accustomed to the Gregorian calendar and its traditions. The Revolutionary Calendar failed to take hold in French society and was abolished a few years later under Napoleon, who reinstated the widely-used Gregorian calendar.
