Over three days, the federal army, national guard, and police from across the country were needed to restore order. By that time, residents of LA had looted millions of dollars worth of goods and destroyed over $1 billion of capitalist property. The beating of Rodney King by police in 1991 served as a trigger for long-simmering anger over systemic racism and oppression faced by residents of South Central LA
