What is Automotive light weight multi-materials sheets joining through friction stir welding technique: An overview about?

The demands for high specific strength materials in the automotive industries have inspired the utility of multi-functional body parts to reduce fuel consumption. This has inevitably been a challenging task to join materials such as steels, Al alloys, and Mg alloys (i.e., ultrahigh, medium, and low strength) together. Since such a material offers diverse performance and property at different design locations. This review paper discussed the recent advancement in dissimilar alloys fabrication through the friction stir welding (FSW) technique, which also confers the parametric effect which improves the joint quality. FSW comes under solid-state welding and has many advantages and cost reductions over conventional fusion welding, which has been extensively used for aerospace and vehicle industries. The main aim of this review article is to consider the status of dissimilar automotive materials joined through FSW.
