This systematic review and meta-analysis examined the relationship between vitamin B12 status, folic acid, and the risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in pregnant women. The analysis of 10 studies involving 10,595 women found that vitamin B12 deficiency is associated with a 46% increased risk of GDM, while elevated vitamin B12 levels may reduce the risk by 23%.
