The conference, undertaken as part of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Human Factors Systems Program, was sponsored by NASA's Langley Research Center and VPI. The purpose of the conference was to help the life scientist, the physical scientist, and the engineer to appreciate more fully the role that each plays in the evolution of the complex man-machine systems required for space flights of extended duration.
