This document summarizes research on synthesizing CoCuMnOx pigments for use in solar collectors through solution combustion methods. The pigments were characterized and found to have a CoCuMnO4 composition with a spinel structure. An enamel containing the pigment was applied to an aluminum substrate and showed extraordinary solar absorption between 95-97%, higher than a commercial black coating. These results suggest the mixed oxide pigments could be useful in absorbent solar enamels.
