Evaluation of Reverse Osmosis and Evaporative Desalination Systems Under Feedwater Supply Constraints Typical in Arid Countries by S.N. Talati is a Environmental Science article available to read on EtoBox.

What is Evaluation of Reverse Osmosis and Evaporative Desalination Systems Under Feedwater Supply Constraints Typical in Arid Countries about?

Reverse osmosis and evaporation are reliable and proven desalination processes for treating of saline water. Multi-stage flash and multi-effect with thermal vapor compression are commonly used evaporative processes. An economic and technical evaluation of these options is usually required to select the process that results in minimum product water cost and meets requirements of a particular application at specific site conditions. This paper provides an illustration of what costs can be expected when reverse osmosis and evaporative processes use different feedwater sources to produce high-purity water. To minimize the influence of site-specific factors and to provide an objective process comparison, only process package costs are considered in this paper. Out-of-package equipment not considered in this evaluation is identified. A technical comparison of the three processes is given. Of the three processes, reverse osmosis was the lowest in cost, feedwater requirements and reject water generation.
