What is Electron Accelerator and Beam Irradiation System about?
In 1895, Roentgen discovered X-rays, which are high-energy, shortwavelength rays that can pass through opaque materials to light. A year later, Grubbe, a medical student who had produced an X-ray tube, hypothesized that the burns on his hands were caused by X-rays. He and his professors used X-ray irradiation treatment in patients with recurrent breast cancer to control disease progression [1]. The success of this treatment led to the beginning of radiotherapy [2]. In 1899, Stenbeck and Sj€ ogren reported to the Swedish Medical Association that they had successfully treated a 49-year-old woman with basal cell carcinoma of the dorsum of her nose using 99 fractions of X-ray radiation [3]. The woman was invited to a radiological conference in 1928 to demonstrate that the tumor had not recurred. Due to unexpected clinical results, radiotherapy has spread without a theoretical explanation of its biological mechanism. In the initial X-ray therapies, the voltage used to generate X-rays was rather lower that it had been mostly used to treat the surface layer, such as hair growth disease, skin ulcers, exudative dermatitis, and angioplasty skin. In 1903, the dermatologists Pusey and Caldwell
