Car usage dramatically increased from 7% in 1960 to 37% in 2000, a fivefold rise. Meanwhile, walking and biking decreased substantially over this period, with walking falling from 35% to under 10% and biking declining from 27% to 7%. Bus usage fluctuated, first rising to 27% in 1980 before dropping back to 18% in 2000.
