Beginning in March 2023, Canada experienced its worst wildfire season in modern history, with over 2,000 fires burning over 3.8 million hectares across the country by early June. Multiple provinces declared states of emergency as hundreds of communities were evacuated. The fires caused widespread air quality issues and smoke that spread across North America and Europe. Over 126,000 Canadians were evacuated from their homes due to the ongoing wildfires.
