Malaysia Airlines offered its 13,000 employees the option to take either 3 months of unpaid leave or 5 days of unpaid leave per month for 3 months starting in April 2020 to cope with the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. This voluntary leave program was also extended to other employees of Malaysian Aviation Group, including its cargo and engineering divisions as well as Firefly and MASwings, as the aviation industry suffered losses due to reduced travel.
