About this document
Japanese Sword Construction Process Explained by Gustavo Neres is a document available to read on EtoBox.
A Japanese sword is constructed through a forging process by a swordsmith using special Japanese steel called tamahagane. The steel is folded multiple times to control the carbon content and produce a harder outer layer and softer inner layer. The smith shapes the steel into a blade through forging and polishing. Additional craftsmen then create complementary parts of the sword like the scabbard, handle guard, and hilt ornaments to complete the sword.
