What is Elder Neglect in Forensic Cases about?
Eight cases of fatal elder neglect were reviewed. The victims ranged in age from 74 to 94 years old, with most being female and African American. Causes of death included sepsis from severe bed sores in five cases and severe dehydration in three cases. Electrolyte analyses showed high sodium, chloride, and blood urea nitrogen levels in the dehydration cases.
