The study investigates whether a distance of 2 mm from the inferior alveolar canal (IAC) during implant surgery is sufficient to prevent neurosensory complications. Analysis of 474 implants showed no significant difference in postoperative pain or paresthesia between implants placed closer than 2 mm and those further away. The findings suggest that the 2 mm safety distance may not be necessary to avoid nerve injury during implant placement.
