What is 263: The Prevalence and Characteristics of Patients Reporting Alcohol Use at an Urban Level 1 Trauma Center about?

sexually transmitted disease (STD). Interestingly, support for state-mandated vaccination was higher among participants who knew that HPV was a STD (OR 2.9 [95%CI 1.7-5.0]), but not among those who had heard of HPV (OR 0.64 [95%CI 0.34-1.2]) or those would knew that HPV causes cervical cancer (OR 0.85 [95%CI 0.45-1.6]). Conclusions: In our sample, one-third of ED patients had not heard of HPV. Younger age, females, white race and higher income were all independently associated with awareness of HPV. Support for state-mandated HPV vaccination appears to be driven more by HPV being an STD than its role in cervical cancer. Educational programs should highlight the importance of HPV's role in cervical cancer to improve understanding of the disease and to strengthen vaccination campaigns.
