The Round City of the Abbasids, built in Baghdad by Caliph Al Mansur in 762 AD, was a well-protected and strategically located city that facilitated trade due to its proximity to the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. It was constructed by 100,000 workers over four years and housed around half a million residents by the 9th century, making it the wealthiest and largest city in the world at that time. The city also became a center for knowledge with the establishment of the Bayt-al-Hikmah, or House of Wisdom.
