The Hanging Gardens of Babylon were considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. King Nebuchadnezzar II had them built around 600 BC in Babylon, Iraq to please his homesick wife. They consisted of terraced gardens supported by vaulted arcades and a hydraulic lift that carried water from the river to irrigate the plants.
