What is LoRUS: Ultrasonic Inspection of Tank Plates about?
The LoRUS system uses long range ultrasonic testing to detect hidden corrosion on difficult to access areas like storage tank annular plates. It employs probes mounted on a manipulator to scan annular plates from outside the tank in a fast and cost effective way. The system can detect corrosion on annular plates with wall thicknesses between 6-25mm from a minimum distance of 1m, allowing for inspection of tanks still in service.
