What is Arizona Desert Retirement Home Design about?

Rick Joy designed a house in southern Arizona that appears as part of the raw, elemental desert landscape. The house is encased in a carapace of weathered steel and sits on a level shelf carved into a hill. It consists of two shed-like volumes - a main house and smaller guest wing - that gently nudge together, enclosing an intermediate courtyard.
