About this document
Modern Military Compass Overview by rafly is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Modern compasses usually contain a magnetized needle or dial inside a liquid-filled capsule to damp the movement of the needle. The liquid serves to reduce oscillation and increase stability. Many modern compasses also incorporate a baseplate with lines and scales to allow taking bearings directly from a map. Some military compasses still use magnetized compass cards instead of needles, and may contain tritium to allow for self-luminous illumination without external charging.
