This document describes a study examining the ability of hairy root cultures of Tagetes patula (marigold) to degrade the textile dye Reactive Red 198. The hairy roots were able to decolorize concentrations of the dye up to 110 mg/L and could be reused for at least 5 cycles. Enzyme assays and spectroscopic analyses confirmed degradation of the dye.
