Islam began as an Arab religion but quickly transformed into a universal tradition as non-Arabs converted. Many converted for practical benefits like increased social status and trade advantages. However, fully integrating into Arab society was difficult for non-Arabs as tribal affiliations remained important. Growing dissatisfaction among Arab clans and non-Arab converts led to a revolution establishing the Abbasid dynasty in the 8th century, reducing Arab dominance.
