What is Amarilis: Love Epistle to Belardo about?

The epistle describes a love declaration from a woman named Amarilis to Lope de Vega. It narrates autobiographical details such as her birthplace in the city of León de Huánuco and her education. It expresses her idealized and platonic love for Lope de Vega despite the distance and the impossibility of a relationship. Several hypotheses have been made about the real identity of Amarilis, but most agree that she was a creole woman from the Viceroyalty of Peru in the 17th century.
