What is New Emissions Control Areas 2025 about?

The IMO has introduced three new Emissions Control Areas (ECAs) for nitrogen oxides (NOx) and sulphur oxides (SOx) effective from May 2025, including the Mediterranean Sea (SOx), Canadian Arctic (NOx and SOx), and Norwegian Sea (NOx and SOx). Ships operating in these areas must comply with strict emissions limitations, including using fuel oils with a maximum sulphur content of 0.1% m/m or approved alternative arrangements. The Canadian Arctic and Norwegian Sea will also require compliance with NOx Tier III
