This document describes a study that developed a High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) method to quantify berberine, an alkaloid present in roots of Berberis aristata. The method used a methanol extract of B. aristata roots developed on a silica gel plate with a solvent system of n-propanol, formic acid and water.
