What is Introduction about?

## Abstract In the Stono Rebellion of 1739, up to one hundred slaves—armed with guns and ammunition seized from a general store—pillaged and burned plantation homes, killing forty slave owners and their families. In an ensuing battle, forty-four slaves and twenty-one militiamen perished. Stono sets the stage for the book’s thesis and methodology. The thesis is that James Madison wrote the Second Amendment to assure the South it could continue to have armed militia for slave control. The method is to understand the imperatives that James Madison and his colleagues in the First Congress faced when they wrote the Second Amendment.
