What is Leptospira borgpetersenii in Tamil Nadu Rats about?

This study aimed to characterize Leptospira isolates from field rats in Tamil Nadu, India. Seroprevalence testing found 51.4% of rats were positive, with Autumnalis, Javanica, Icterohaemorrhagiae and Pomona being the predominant serovars. Two isolates from rat kidneys were identified as serovar Javanica of L. borgpetersenii through 16S rRNA and lipL32 gene sequencing and molecular phylogeny. The isolates were also found to be pathogenic in laboratory animals.
