What is Io. Bapt. Portae Neapolitani Magiae natvralis libri XX about?

First complete edition of a celebrated work by Giambattista della Porta whose descriptions of his discoveries in many different fields, such as cosmology, geology, optics, plants, medicine, poisons, cookery, distillation, gems, magnetics, cryptography, and metal transmutation provide invaluable insight into the science of his day. By 1589 the work had grown to 20 books, and represented the whole of Porta's scientific knowledge. Much of this information was derived from scholars and friends of Porta who were members of his Academy of Secrets in Naples; each member was obliged to contribute something useful and not generally known. Among his scientific discoveries, Porta includes the first detailed explanation of the camera obscura with a lens for entertainment and artistic purposes. Porta, a showman and playright as well as scientist, was so successful at demonstrating the camera obscura, in which entire scenes could be projected on to a wall, that he was accused of sorcery. The Magiae naturalis became one of the most popular works of its time, and was widely translated into French, Spanish, Arabic, Italian, English and German
