The pharynx is a fibro-muscular tube that extends from the base of the skull to the esophagus. It is divided into 3 parts: the nasopharynx, oropharynx, and laryngopharynx. The pharynx has 4 layers - an inner mucosal layer, subepithelial connective tissue layer, muscle layer, and outer buccopharyngeal fascia.
