What is Bacillus Volatiles Combat Mango Anthracnose about?
This study evaluated the potential for using volatile compounds produced by Bacillus bacteria to control anthracnose, a fungal disease, on post-harvest mango fruits. Two Bacillus strains, identified as B. pumilus and B. thuringiensis, strongly inhibited the anthracnose fungus in laboratory and fruit tests. Gas chromatography analysis identified 11 volatile compounds produced by the bacteria. Some individual volatile compounds and a mixture of 5 volatiles completely inhibited fungal growth in the laboratory.
