What is Jet Engine Monitoring via Genetic Programming about?

This thesis proposes a new approach for aircraft jet engine condition monitoring based on system identification using genetic programming (GP). The approach consists of two parts: fault detection and fault isolation. GP is used to model the relationship between engine parameters and detect abrupt faults. For isolation, GP extracts nonlinear fault indices that magnify fault signatures to classify faults. The performance of the algorithms is demonstrated on data from a simulated double spool jet engine.
