This study analyzes the determinants of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Pakistan from 1981 to 2009 using an autoregressive distributed lag model. It finds that GDP, a proxy for market size, has a significant positive relationship with FDI inflows in both the short and long run. Economic growth, measured by real GDP growth rate and change in real GDP, also has a positive impact on FDI. The results indicate GDP and economic growth are important drivers of FDI for Pakistan.
