The study compared the effectiveness of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery in correcting insulin resistance and remission of type 2 diabetes in severely obese patients. It found that both procedures achieved similar rates of normalization of insulin resistance and remission of type 2 diabetes at two years post-surgery. A greater reduction in HOMA-IR at three months post-surgery was the main predictor of remission of type 2 diabetes.
