About this document
Sliding Contact Coilguns Overview by arietilang is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Sliding contact coilguns were first investigated in 1961 and are currently being studied as they provide greater efficiency than railguns but require less expensive power electronics than contactless coilguns. The sliding contact coilgun uses a stationary solenoid and a coaxial moving solenoid to exert force on each other. Various configurations of the coilguns are discussed and analyzed to maximize the mutual inductance gradient for increased acceleration.
