The respiratory system allows humans to breathe and enables gas exchange. It consists of the nose, trachea, bronchi, lungs, bronchioles, alveoli, and diaphragm. During inhalation, air enters the nose and travels through the trachea into the lungs, filling the alveoli. The diaphragm and rib muscles help expand the lungs to draw air in.
